Obstetric Fetal Echo (22-24 weeks)

An obstetric fetal echocardiogram, also known as a fetal echo, is a specialized ultrasound conducted between 22 and 24 weeks of pregnancy. This exam focuses specifically on assessing the structure and function of the baby’s heart. During the fetal echo, a trained sonographer or pediatric cardiologist uses ultrasound technology to capture detailed images of the heart. Unlike the routine anatomy scan, the fetal echo provides a more in-depth examination, allowing for a thorough evaluation of the heart’s chambers, valves, blood vessels, and overall function.
