Portal Color Doppler

Portal color Doppler is a diagnostic imaging technique used to evaluate blood flow in the portal vein, which is the main vessel carrying blood from the gastrointestinal tract, spleen, and pancreas to the liver. This procedure uses high-frequency sound waves to create real-time images and measure the speed and direction of blood flow in the portal vein.

During the exam, a handheld device called a transducer emits sound waves that reflect off the blood cells in the portal vein. The transducer then detects these echoes and converts them into visual images. These images provide valuable information about the blood flow and help diagnose and manage conditions affecting the portal vein.
